Vicar of Christ or Bishop of Rome?

Vicar of Christ or Bishop of Rome?

Pope Francis keeps referring to himself as the Bishop of Rome. Where has this term come from since the term Vicar of Christ has been used since the 15th century? The answer comes from Vatican II and a priest liberal theologian Fr. Yves Congar. In his book Congar he states, “…….there is the thesis that affirms the power in the Church, even the power of the Pope, would always be collegial. The Pope would always act as ‘head of the College.’ He could not act by his own power as ‘Vicar of Christ’ (I place the last words between quotation marks because I am not comfortable with this expression, which I personally avoid using). ….

“I am strongly favorable to a collegial power that can be exercised by the College of Bishops as well as by the Pope himself as its head, representing the whole body.”

To support the usage over all these centuries of the term Vicar of Christ we have Matthew 16, “…..And I tell thee this in my turn, that thou art Peter, and it is upon this rock that I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it; 19 and I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

St. Peter was the only apostle that was given such power, the power from Christ himself. The question that one is bound to ask is, “if the pope does not believe he has this power, does he have the power to use it”? It is like grace from God, if we have it, but do not believe in it, does it benefit us?

You might also consider Congars last phrase. In this paragraph the pope is representing the whole body of bishops and the members of the church. This is a total flip of theology. Congar, and apparently the pope, want the keys to go to all the bishops and only have the pope as their representative. Did they not read St. Matthew?

Ecumenism, the New Heresy

The Pope Addresses the Pentecostal Church in Italy

This is just another amazing promotion of the heresy of ecumenism in the post Vatican II world. All of the post Vatican II popes who have kissed the Koran, gone to temple, etc. are defying the entire history of pre-Vatican II popes who have condemned it, even ex-cathedra! It is a true heresy that envelopes the whole Catholic Church.

Let’s see what the pre-Vatican II popes had to say about what the pope is about to do:

Pope Pius XII:

“This being so, it is clear that the Apostolic See cannot on any terms take part in their assemblies, nor is it anyway lawful for Catholics either to support or to work for such enterprises; for if they do so they will be giving countenance to a false Christianity, quite alien to the one Church of Christ.”
Pope Gregory XVI:

“…..Now We consider another abundant source of the evils with which the Church is afflicted at present: indifferentism. This perverse opinion is spread on all sides by the fraud of the wicked who claim that it is possible to obtain the eternal salvation of the soul by the profession of any kind of religion, as long as morality is maintained. Surely, in so clear a matter, you will drive this deadly error far from the people committed to your care. With the admonition of the apostle that “there is one God, one faith, one baptism”[16] may those fear who contrive the notion that the safe harbor of salvation is open to persons of any religion whatever. They should consider the testimony of Christ Himself that “those who are not with Christ are against Him,”[17] and that they disperse unhappily who do not gather with Him. Therefore “without a doubt, they will perish forever, unless they hold the Catholic faith whole and inviolate.”[18] ….”

Ex Cathedra!!!
” The most Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes, and preaches that NONE of those existing outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics [Protestants] and schismatics, can have a share in life eternal; but that they will go into the eternal fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, UNLESS before death they are joined with Her; and that so important is the unity of this ecclesiastical body that only those remaining within this unity can profit by the sacraments of the Church unto salvation, and they alone can receive an eternal recompense for their fasts, their almsgivings, their other works of Christian piety and the duties of a Christian soldier. No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, NO ONE, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church. (Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441).
St. Pius X explains that the enemies of the Church are within her walls:
“Hence, the danger is present almost in the very veins and heart of the Church, whose injury is the more certain from the very fact that their knowledge of her is more intimate. Moreover, they lay the ax not to the branches and shoots, but to the very root, that is, to the faith and its deepest fibers. And once having struck at this root of immortality, they proceed to diffuse poison through the whole tree, so that there is no part of Catholic truth which they leave untouched, none that they do not strive to corrupt.”

Let us pray that Pope Francis has a change of mind!

The Consecration of the Hands of the Priest

Saint Thomas Aquinas taught that “out of reverence for this Sacrament, nothing touches it but what is consecrated.” This goes to the vessels that hold the sacred species as well as the hands of the priest who are the ONLY ones consecrated”.
One cannot forget why. Nothing impure must make contact with His Body and Blood. Never should there be a possibility to commit sacrilege toward our Lord Jesus Christ. No one who really understands the magnificent nature of the miracle should selfishly demand the right to handle the sacred presence when God has given them the opportunity, through the priest, to take His presence internally, close to their heart and fill their soul with an abundance of grace.

The Council of Trent defined dogmatically that Our Lord Jesus Christ is present in every part of the Blessed Sacrament. The Council taught infallibly:

“If anyone denieth that, in the venerable Sacrament of the Eucharist, the whole Christ is contained under each species, and under every part of each species, when separated; let him be anathema.”

In the rubrics before Vatican II:

1) From the moment the priest pronounces the words of the Consecration over the Sacred Host, the priest keeps his forefinger and thumb together on each hand. Whether he elevates the chalice, or turns the pages of the missal, or opens the tabernacle, his thumb and his forefinger on each hand are closed. The thumb and forefinger touch nothing but the Sacred Host;

2) During Holy Communion, the altar boy holds the paten under the chin of those receiving Communion, so that the slightest particle does not fall to the ground. This paten is cleaned into the chalice afterwards;

3) After Holy Communion is distributed, the priest scrapes the corporal (the small linen cloth on the altar) with the paten, and cleans it into the chalice so that if the slightest particle is left, it is collected and consumed by the priest;

4) Then, the priest washes his thumb and forefinger over the chalice with water and wine, and this water and wine is reverently consumed to insure that the smallest particle of the Sacred Host is not susceptible to desecration.

The precautions taken to protect the sacred species is suspect when many ordinary persons are placed upon the altar to dispense the sacred host. This is greatly magnified when the people are allowed to place Our Lord in their ordinary hands and self-administer. A very conservative church I once attended cautioned the people at all the Masses for they were finding the host in the pews, in the books, and on the floor! It is also known that hosts are stolen from churches by this easy means for desecration in Satanic rituals.

Why would anyone want to submit our Dear Lord to such blasphemy and Sacrilege! This does not happen with the traditional priests in churches like the Society of Saint Pius V. The same care is taken as has always been taken to protect and piously dispense the Most Sacred Body and Blood of Jesus Christ when one attends the Latin Mass as it has always been.

St. Athanasius

There is a famous letter from St. Athanasius during the Arian Heresy to his people.  It is truly appropriate to today’s church.

St. Athanasius suffered many trials while he was bishop of Alexandria.  He was exiled on many occasions.  He was given the grace to remain strong against what probably seemed at times to be insurmountable opposition. St. Athanasius lived his office as bishop completely. He defended the true faith for his flock, regardless of the cost to himself and eventually steered the great church back in the correct direction.  Below is an excerpt of a letter:

“May God console you! … What saddens you … is the fact that others have occupied the churches by violence, while during this time you are on the outside. It is a fact that they have the premises – but you have the Apostolic Faith. They can occupy our churches, but they are outside the true Faith. You remain outside the places of worship, but the Faith dwells within you. Let us consider: what is more important, the place or the Faith? The true Faith, obviously. Who has lost and who has won in the struggle – the one who keeps the premises or the one who keeps the Faith? True, the premises are good when the Apostolic Faith is preached there; they are holy if everything takes place there in a holy way …

“You are the ones who are happy; you who remain within the Church by your Faith, who hold firmly to the foundations of the Faith which has come down to you from Apostolic Tradition. And if an execrable jealousy has tried to shake it on a number of occasions, it has not succeeded. They are the ones who have broken away from it in the present crisis. No one, ever, will prevail against your Faith, beloved Brothers. And we believe that God will give us our churches back some day.

“Thus, the more violently they try to occupy the places of worship, the more they separate themselves from the Church. They claim that they represent the Church; but in reality, they are the ones who are expelling themselves from it and going astray. Even if Catholics faithful to Tradition are reduced to a handful, they are the ones who are the true Church of Jesus Christ.

The burden is sometimes great to come back to the traditional church.  With the help of St. Athanasius, the road is tolerable and the destination is one of great joy and understanding.  The Society of Saint Pius V is a venerable and sacred home where our Dear Lord is afforded the true respect of the King of Kings.
